four years, the term of the administration of president obama? >> see, this is the real reason why i called on jose miguel because he just articulated a question that i couldn't quite articulate but was precisely -- >> let me answer as bluntly and quickly as possible, and i'll invite my panelists to join in. first of all, the oas is a victim, and jose -- [inaudible] sosa is the beneficiary of the oas' growing irrelevance. the oas has declined in stature and importance, and jose miguel has been less open to observation and criticism because it's becoming less and less relevant. i think it's difficult. i honestly don't know how you turn that corner to make the oas much more -- i do think giving much more -- to take the case of the american human rights commission which is something that we're working on as america's quarterly, i think that could be a test case for demonstrating, you know, the only thing that really works in the oas and could sort of, hope any, reinject -- and also an opportunity for the obama administration to quietly, behind the scenes, make common cause with countrie

, bank of america, citi group, and morgan stanley. the group ran up over 26% in the last year, and the estimates have come down considerably from sector to sector so this group, obviously, estimates trimmed to a certain extent. back to you. >> thank you, nicole. president obama addressed the nation on the looming debt ceiling warning a debt crisis could occur if congress does not raise the debt limit. rich edson is in washington, d.c. with the details. rich? >> both sides dug in, and president obama refuses to negotiate, congress should clear the way and put the responsibility squarely on congress. >> this is a matter of congress authorizes spending. they order me to spend. they tell me you need to fund our defense department at such and such a level. you need to send out social security checks. you need to make sure that you are paying to care for our veterans. they lay all of this out for me, and because they have the spending power, and so i am required by law to go ahead and pay these bills. >> the president did sign all of that in appropriations into law. the white house

the country that has given him so much. this has been his goal since he was a kid. when president obama stopped the deportation of eligible youth last year, he opened the door of opportunity for young people and he pointed the way forward by establishing important principles to guide immigration reform. immigrants must take personal responsibility for their actions. if they do this, we must provide a meaningful path forward to become members of american society. we have every right to protect our borders but we must balance this with the need to encourage the aspiration of america's immigrants. these are the principles of the american people threw their support behind in november. these are the principles that guide immigration reform in the coming months. with these principles in mind, we need reform builds upon the following policy pillars. a pathway to legal permanent residents in three and citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants must be at the core of reform. number two is legalization should be earned. it should be a process and not a punishment proof of english-lang

, every single day across our country. every day of the year, an average of 33 americans are murdered with guns. here is another way to think about what that means. one week from today, president obama will take the oath of office for his second term. unless we take action, during those four years, some 48,000 americans will be killed with guns. nearly twice as many people as were killed in combat during the entire vietnam war. when i have talked with the vice president, i have made it very clear that our bipartisan coalition of mayors is supporting seven measures. three that need legislation and for that require only executive action. we are hopeful the president and vice president will support all seven. i just wanted to touch on each of them briefly. first, most urgently, we need the president and congress together to require background checks for all gun sales, including private sales at gun shows and online. private sales now account for more than 40% of all gun sales nationally. which means that in 2012 alone, there were more than 6 million gun sales that happened with no projec
